ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

One of the few custom miniatures build for the original "Star Trek" TV series, the K-7 space station was the primary setting for the classic Season Two episode, "The Trouble With Tribbles."  Ostensibly a way-station on the fringe of the Federation -- and a spiritual ancestor to Deep Space Nine -- the station was a fairly simple miniature composed of four convex discs connected Tinker Toy-fashion with three dowel rods.  In fact, components were based on an actual "inflatable moon base" design developed for the U.S. space program.

The last of AMT's TOS-related model kits, the K-7 Space Station was available periodically during the 1970s and early 1980s, only to vanish forever.  The original kit -- which included a teenie-tiny U.S.S. Enterprise model for scale -- has become a valuable collector's item.

The kit was re-released in June 2010 by Round 2 using the AMT brand and new artwork.

This kit is an original issue -- and is a candidate for refurbishing.
