Junker JU-187 "Super Stukas" Over North Africa |
ABOUT THE DESIGN |
ABOUT THE KIT |
The JU-187 was designed to
replace the venerable JU-87 "Stuka" dive bomber that had so ably served
the Third Reich during the invasion of Poland and the Battle of Britain.
Faster, more heavily armed and made entirely of metal, the JU-187 featured
retractable landing gear, a remote-controlled rear turret and, perhaps most original of all, a
reversible tail that could be turned 180 degrees in flight to provide
clearance for the aforementioned weapon. The JU-187 project got as far as a wind-tunnel model and full-sized mock-up before it was cancelled to make way for the JU-187 jet bomber project. This 1:72 scale resin model of the JU-187 was released by Unicraft in early 2004. |
This 1:72 scale resin model
of the JU-187 was released by Unicraft in
early 2004. As with many Unicraft kits, modelers had the choice of
building the plane with either a clear vacuform or solid resin canopy.
This model, build in the "wheels up" position to spotlight the reversible tail, was built from an original issue. |
