ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

When the creators of the Sci-Fi Channel's remake of a certain 1970s sci-fi classic decided to "re-imagine" the series, they updated not only the premise, characters and storyline, but the technology as well.  Gone were the greeblie-covered flying saucers piloted by the chrome-plated robots of the old series; the new "Raiders" were not only far more sinister in appearance, but they were autonomous, self-aware cyborgs.  With metal exteriors and organic interiors, these raiders were "alive" in every sense.  And, as we learned in the series' 2nd Season, when "killed," a Raider's programming was "downloaded" to a central processing center so it could be "resurrected" in a new body -- its memories and experiences intact. Released by Fantastic Plastic Models in spring 2006, the "Galactic Raider" was the first FP kit to be based on a movie or TV vehicle design.  Mastered by Alfred Wong, the kit was extensively rescribed by BLAP! Models, which also did the casting.

This model was built from an original issue.
