ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

Of all the new spacecraft designs created for “Return of the Jedi,” the A-wing fighter was certainly one of the simplest.  A basic wedge with two engines, two tails and a cockpit, the A-wing was supposed to be a small high-speed fighter with limited fire-power but high maneuverability.  It was a fun little design, but one that didn’t quite live up to the tradition of the series’ earlier, more creative offerings.

The basic lines of A-wing would later be echoed in the Jedi Starfighter featured in “Star Wars – Episode II: Attack of the Clones.”

The A-Wing fighter was one of four “Snap” kits released by MPC in conjunction with “Return of the Jedi” in 1983.  Although it was a simple kit, the detail was sharp and the fit of the pieces was pretty much state-of-the-art.  Which is more than could be said for the flimsy stand.

Unlike the other three “ROTJ” Snap kits, the A-wing was never issued in gold plate.

This model was built from an original issue.
