The Monogram Flap Jack is a circa 1973 kit and to my knowledge has never been reissued so I feel I am very lucky to have gotten my hands on this one.

As the box says “Flap Jack Action-packed, battery powered Bobs around, wings flap, propeller spins, snap together, no gluing or painting."

Well. they were close. "No painting" comes from that funky soft, rubbery toy-like plastic.  No paint will stick to it but I did some painting any way, so there. Glue, well the “snap-fit” on the fuselage is done by 2 screws leaving gapping all around so taped it up and fill-glued the entire fuselage.

The kit required extensive cleaning as there is lots of flash but the plastic is rubbery and soft so filing is out of the question, but a gentle hand with a scalpel works just fine.

As for the painting I painted up the pilot, (who is molded as part of the 2 halves of the fuselage), the frame around the canopy, “weathered” the motor machine guns and prop hub with silver paint and a wash if black ink, and finely I inked in the lines forming the rudder, elevators and ailerons.

The decals were “stickers” which,  for their age, were remarkably adhesive!! The stickers are one of the best jokes on the kit for example:

The “Rescue” arrow says HELP!

The aircraft is a member of the "Air Farce."

And finely a quote from the info markings
