ABOUT THE DESIGN: | ABOUT THE MODEL: | |
In the mid-1950s, Canada's Avro Aviation invested heavily in research exploring the viability of "flying saucer"-style aircraft. Although the only actual X-plane to emerge from this program was the ill-fated VZ-9 "Avro Car," many other "saucer-wing" planes made it to the project stage. Its Project 606 was a high-speed reconnaissance aircraft whose circular wing was supposed to make it less visible to enemy radar. The 606-A was the first iteration of this concept, one powered by two fuselage-mounted jet engines. |
