ABOUT THE DESIGN: | ABOUT THE MODEL: | |
Moving to the U.S. after World War II, Germany's Dr. Alexander Lippisch continued developing cutting-edge aircraft for American military aircraft manufacturers, particularly Convair. In between designing the delta-winged F-102 Delta Dagger, F-106 Delta Dart and the B-58 Hustler, Lippisch dabbled with ducted fan aircraft concepts, which he called aerodynes. One of his proposals was for a ducted-fan fighter, a "Combat Aerodyne." Looking like something out of George Lucas sci-fi fantasy, the single-seat craft never got beyond Lippisch's drawing board. |
