ABOUT THE DESIGN:    ABOUT THE MODEL:

Like Germany, Japan put numerous "wonder weapons" into development during the waning months of WWII in hopes of stemming a Allied victory.  One of these was the Kayaba "Katsuodori" (Energy), a stubby interceptor designed to attack American bombers en route to the Japanese home islands.  The plane would launch with the help of four side-mounded rocket motors.  Once sufficient speed was achieved, an internal ramjet engine would kick in, allowing it to achieve near super-sonic speeds.

The "Katsudori" never got beyond the planning stage .
