The Eitan, also known as the
Heron TP, is Israel's front-line surveillance drone. Developed by
Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI), the Eitan -- which means "steadfast" in
Hebrew -- was first test-flown in 2004 but not revealed to the general
public until 2007. Highly automated, the Eitan can operate for extended
periods at altitudes above commercial aircraft and can take off and land
autonomously.
In February 2010, the Israeli Air Force formally introduced its new fleet of Eitans, the 210 Squadron, which began full-time operations out of Tel Nof that December. |
