Early in the development of America's Strategic Defense Initiative -- more popularly known as "Star Wars" -- Defense Department scientists explored the possibility of sending nuclear-powered laser satellites into orbit to shoot down enemy missiles during their vulnerable launch phase.  However, subsequent experiments by scientists at California's Lawrence-Livermore Laboratories proved the whole nuclear-powered laser concept to be unworkable.  (At least that's what they told us, ha, ha!)

Revell of Germany and Corgi together released this odd pair of conceptual laser battle stations during the height of Reagan Era Cold War hysteria.  What distinguished one design from another was never explained.  Nor did the models come with a display stand.  Needless to say, it was not a best-seller.

These models were built from the kit's one and only issue.
