Sandcrawler in the Great Salt Desert

ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

The Jawa Sandcrawler was a massive roving "chop shop" for errant droids and other machines abandoned in the desert wastes of the planet Tatooine.  Operated by the diminutive Jawas, the 'crawler was slow, ponderous but tough enough to withstand the brutal conditions of this unforgiving world.

When designing vehicles for his first "Star Wars" film, writer/director George Lucas instructed his art directors to give his universe a distinctly "lived-in" look.  Certainly few vehicles looked as "lived-in" -- or shall we say "used" -- as this rusted, clunky tank-like contraption.

The Jawa Sandcrawler was the first Fantastic Plastic kit patterned by Spain's Jesus Luna Gomez.  Cast by Masterpiece Models, the kit featured a roto-cast main body and headpiece to facilitate interior lighting.

This kit was released in 2008 and retired in July 2009.
